Melbourne - Great Ocean Road 2017

Scenic drive from Melbourne to Adelaide on Great Ocean Road

11 days on Australia road, driving from city to outskirts, across the island and back to city.
My first ever road trip, and I am loved every single bit of it! Can't wait to return for more!

Day 1
Melbourne City
Our airbnb home in Melbourne, Docklands. It was a really last minute booking
cause we miscounted our departure date, and we had one extra day before the road trip.
So glad to score this awesome airbnb with such artsy deco and wonderful harbour view!
 Just look at the view!😍
The host even prepared a booklet of food to eat, places to visit, tips and instructions for their guest.
We went to try +39 Pizzeria and Antipasteria, its really good! I would recommend this place👍

Day 2
Great Ocean Road (Apollo Bay)
Woke up to such a lovely view the next morning, how often do you see sunrise and hot air balloons!
Start of our road trip!🚗
Quick stop at Geelong town for brunch at Freckle Duck recommended by Tripadvisor.
Very good customer service, small but cozy setting!
We ordered FD bacons and eggs, the bacons were so thick and amazingly soft!
Scenic GOR drive. You get to see blue waters for almost the entire journey!
 📍Point addis
This route takes you all the way down to the beach via these big steps,
where you can see the locals surfing.
The other route is a lovely boardwalk along the cliffs with a few inlets circled
with benches to sit and admire the delectable ocean views.
📍The GOR sign. You can google 'Memorial Arch at Eastern View' for the exact location.
Just beside the parking lot is a pathway down to the beach.
You can take a short break here watching the locals do fishing.
Our airbnb home at Apollo Bay for the night. Image credit to host, as I forgot to take a photo of the room. I would definitely stay longer if I could! Look at this, the sea just across the road. You can literally hear the wave crashing from your room, so peaceful.
📍Apollo Bay. Paddle pop sunset by the beach!💕
Tripod came in handy for solo trip(:

Day 3
Apollo Bay to Robe
We woke up at 6am to catch the sunrise from our balcony.
This picture just can't do justice to how beautiful the sunrise was in real life.
📍Cape Otway Lightstation
Entrance to the park is $19.50 per adult, you get to access the entire park and go up the lighthouse.
Tips: Go early to avoid crowds or queue to go up the lighthouse.
The housekeeper asked if we spotted whales from above, but we did not😢
It was freezing cold that morning, we seek shelter at the cafe opposite the light house for some hot drinks.
Got the window seats all to ourselves with the view of the lighthouse and ocean.
📍: Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park
I wouldn't really recommend this place, unless its the only wildlife park you will be visiting during your trip. The entrance ticket is $17 per person with a pack of complimentary feeding food for the petting area. The park itself is pretty small, I think it is not that well maintained and pretty much nothing fun nor interesting.
 📍Twelve Apostles
 📍Gibson Steps
Walk down these steps on to the beach for a close-up view.
 📍Loch Ard Gorge
 📍London Arch
📍The Razorback
Our airbnb home in Robe. We booked this entire home of 3 bedrooms all to ourselves.
All photos credit to host, as I forgot to take pictures of the house again, only have video of it.
We arrived really late in Robe town after a 5hours long drive from Apollo Bay.
Took away dinner from the only Chinese restaurant that was open at 7pm run by a Malaysian family.
The airbnb host even gifted us a bottle of wine from her own winery as a welcome gift!😄

Day 4
Robe to Normanville
We stopped by Normanville town for the night before our early morning ferry to Kangaroo Island.
I quite like this small town, plenty of green rolling hills and beautiful houses built on hills with panoramic sea view.
Check out the view from our airbnb home!
Here's a photo of our airbnb home. Photo credit to host.
We used google maps to plan our entire road trip itinerary.
Just simply marked out the places and you can have an overview of which point to go first.
It helps you estimate the distance and time.
You can even download the maps if you want to use it offline!

Will continue the Kangaroo island trip on the next post!
